This arrangement of household items looked so picturesque that I couldn't pass by without taking a photo. You can see here traditional bamboo baskets doko that are used for carrying grass, fruits, stones or even kids; a bamboo carpet, shelves and brooms. 

A sleeping rickshaw

The ability of men to be able to fall asleep anywhere and at any time they've got a couple of free minutes really amuses me. Look at this rickshaw, sleeping like a baby in the middle of the day, on the road full of cars and noise. Seems that uncomfortable pose doesn't bother him at all.

Puja at Swayambhunath

A priest performing puja at the Swayambhunath temple. Puja is a prayer ritual performed by Hindus to host, honour and worship one or more deities, or to spiritually celebrate an event. The word comes from Sanskrit, and means reverence, honour, homage, adoration, and worship. There are many things that are needed for the ritual but water, flowers, fruits and rice are the main ingredients. Incense sticks, coins, a bell and different kinds of vessels are also used.

You can see a vajra on the sacred scripture. Seems like the priest uses it as a bookmark here. 

Warm scarves and shwals

This old woman seems to be overwhelmed by the choice of warm knitted scarves and shawls that are offered at Indra Chowk. What a variety of colours, prints, textures and prices. Cheaper acrylic, more costly yak wool or luxurious pashmina - one can find the affordable item and to one's taste.

Kathmandu graffiti

These people who paint the walls make the streets look more interesting, joyful and brighter. Some of the graffiti in Kathmandu is made by professionals, but some drawings, as one can guess, are definitely made by kids

Tangerines and strawberries

Starting from December and to early March there is tangerines and strawberries season in Nepal. They can be bought at supermarkets, packaged in a civilized manner in plastic bags. And you can find them on the streets as well, where vendors with baskets or trolleys filled to the top offer these fruits and berries. Strawberries can be bought not only by weight, but also in paper bags, twisted up of old newspapers by skillful hands of the sellers.

When my friends from Moscow came to Nepal for the first time, the first thing they were impressed of on the road from the airport was of the local butchers'. "Look, an orange pig!". In amazement and excitement they yelled, snapped cameras and shoot on video. The pig looked indeed orange, but this is not some special kind of local pig of this colour. The matter is that the skin of the animal is rubbed with with a special mixture of mustard oil, ashes, lemon juice and turmeric powder, which actually is the cause of the bright orange colour. This procedure protects the meat from drying out and wrinkling, and also it repels flies.

Healthy sleep on the road

I saw this cutie on my way to the Monkey Temple. He doesn't need much to fall asleep - no bed, no pillow, no blanket. It doesn't bother him in the slightest that the ground is not soft and that there are people walking around. That is what I call "healthy sleep".
