Jalebi are one of the most common and favourite sweets in Nepal. They are deep-fried yellow-orange loops dipped in saffron syrup. Jalebi taste best when freshly made as they are crisp and the filling is succulent and aromatic. When they cool they lose their crispness and the filling crystallizes but they are still delicious. I like to eat them with yogurt (dhai) to tone down their sweetness.
locally we call it jerry. jalebi is indian word.
ReplyDeleteand we eat it with "swari" its like "puri/roti" but not exactly that with "haluwa" the combination of these three things together increases the taste of this food. this is how newar's eat it. i can still remember my grandfather taking me to the local tea shop when i was small to eat jerry and swari. how beautiful were those days.
ReplyDeleteThanks for details. Never heard "jerry", but heard that it is eaten with roti, but haven't tried that myself yet.
