Yesterday my friends brought to me two gigantic citruses. At first I assumed that this was a grapefruit, but the size was too impressive for a grapefruit. As I found out later this fruit is called pomelo. And its Latin name is Citrus maxima or Citrus grandis that actually says that the subject is a large citrus. That's it - the weight of the fruit can reach 10 kg and in diameter it can be 30 cm.The taste reminds of a grapefruit, same sweet-sour with smack of bitter. The citrus comes from China. And the Chinese also have a tradition of sharing the fruits of pomelo on the New Year’s Eve, as a wish of prosperity and well-being.
A ripe pomelo is slightly soft to touch and have strong aroma. It may be kept for months, even without refrigeration. It is very good in dishes with seafood, especially prawns. By itself, eaten fresh, it is also tasty. And besides being tasty it is good for health. Like all the citrus, pomelo is rich in vitamin C. It helps also in atherosclerosis, arterial blood pressure, purifies the blood vessels and even prevents the formation of tumors.
Correct, its good for liver but that angle of taking photo holding two pomelo fruits is really naughty.. oh pardon my dity mind
ReplyDeleteIs it "bhogatye"?? Its a seasonal fruit. It is eaten during winter season. Regarding how it is eaten. Since it is cold inside house during winter. People go out to the sun, usually on roof of a house or balcony (any place where you can feel the sun) and eat it with the mixture of fine dry salt and chilli powder or sugar(the mixture is dry). But i prefer mixture of chilli powder and salt. You take a piece of it and deep some part of it to the mixture and eat it. This fruit is believed to be good for health, if you eat it during winter season. Good for cough, cold and various winter related comman health problems.
